Riding from Sea 2 Summit to raise
vital funds for Redkite
A brave group of Australian riders will be taking part in one of Australia’s toughest cycling events, the Sea 2 Summit Challenge, to help Redkite support children and young people with cancer and their families.
Put into perspective, this cycling event is tougher than many mountain stages of the Tour de France. Covering 248km and climbing 5,500 metres, from sea level at Merimbula’s coastline to the highest point in Australia, Mt Kosciuszko, the Sea 2 Summit Challenge on Saturday 20 March, 2010 will be no easy feat.
Many of the Sea 2 Summit riders have been balancing work and family with extensive training for weeks in the lead-up to the challenge, giving them the opportunity to achieve extraordinary things whilst raising much needed funds for Redkite.
“Riders are drawn to the event as not everyone will make it to the top – training, mental toughness and the elements play a huge part of the challenge,” explains Damian Heman, Sea 2 Summit Challenge Founder.
“It’s a privilege to be able to provide people with the opportunity to take part in a life enhancing event which at the same time provides support to families in real need.”
Riding this year for the second time, Tim Rogers, Redkite’s General Manager for Services, understands the importance of Redkite’s services.
“The Sea 2 Summit Challenge is a really tough ride but all of the riders know that it is nothing compared to what families dealing with childhood cancer go through,” says Tim.
Beginning in 2006, the Sea 2 Summit Challenge has raised almost $150,000 for Redkite to provide real and practical emotional, financial and educational support for families at a time when they need it most.
The event has received invaluable support from numerous corporate and personal sponsors, without whom, the event would not be possible. Sponsors for the event include Quattro Innovation Group, Carrington, SBS, Body Torque, Verofit, Cycling Australia, and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (Kosciuszko).
